It is a great pleasure to inform you that a beneficiary of the Halina Nieć Legal Aid Center, a talented athlete and a woman of unwavering courage, has been granted refugee status in Poland! Her story is a true example of fighting for one's dreams and freedom. This is not only a success in the legal process, but also the beginning of a new chapter in her life and sports career.
The Center's beneficiary, a citizen of Iran, was persecuted by Iranian authorities, which led her to leave her country of origin with her daughter in search of a safe place. From a young age, she was involved in creative opposition activities through journalism, poetry, and directing at film school. Raised in a Muslim family, she made the courageous decision to secretly undergo baptism despite the risks posed by the restrictive regime. After finishing high school, she began training in shooting sports, quickly achieving numerous national and international records.
Unfortunately, discrimination and violence based on her gender and independent stance prevented her from continuing her sports career. In Iran, the religious system of governance is based on Islamic law, which underpins the legal system and influences every aspect of life. Defying imposed rules results in repression and inhumane punishment, including flogging.
With our support, the foreign national applied for international protection and was granted refugee status for herself and her daughter. Thanks to her unique athletic skills and great talent, she received a scholarship from the International Olympic Committee after qualifying for the Refugee Olympic Team for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
We will definitely be cheering for our Beneficiary and wish her every success in the upcoming Olympics! We are thrilled that she and her daughter have been recognized as refugees in Poland, where she can train and continue her development in a country where she is no longer in danger.
This is one of many examples that show how crucial it is for foreigners seeking protection in Poland to have access to free legal aid, especially when fleeing persecution in their country of origin.
We are grateful to have the opportunity to support all foreigners, regardless of whether they are Olympians or not. Every Beneficiary is important and unique to us, and their stories matter. We continue our work with joy and hope for more success ahead!

We have already scaled back our activities, yet we still face the threat of closure by the end of September.
